HRONIS RACING - KOSTA AND PETE HRONIS

Owner

Residence: Delano, Northern California

  • Brothers Kosta and Pete Hronis, among California’s top owners, had a strong history with Oaklawn even before sending a string of horses with trainer John Sadler for the first time in 2020.
  • They won the 2017 Apple Blossom Handicap (G1) with champion Stellar Wind and were second in the 2018 Oaklawn Handicap with Champion Accelerate. Among their best horses in 2021 was Carousel Stakes winner Edgeway, who ended her season with a second in the Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Sprint (G1).
  • Their stable was voted the 2018 Eclipse Award as Outstanding Owner after Accelerate captured the $6 million Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1) and the 2018 Eclipse Award as Champion Older Dirt Male.
  • Accelerate now stands at Lane’s End Farm near Versailles, Kentucky.
  • In 2010, an usher at Santa Anita introduced the brothers to trainer John Sadler and a long, successful relationship started with a $40,000 claim named Sleep Tight. They won their third straight Santa Anita Handicap (G1) in 2020 with Combatant. Accelerate won the race in 2018 and Gift Box in 2019.
  • Kosta Hronis has several decades of experience as chief executive officer and president of Hronis Inc., a company founded in 1945 by his father that is now a leader in the production of table grapes and citrus fruits. He oversees the everyday operation of family-owned vineyards and orchards, the transport of freshly picked fruit to temperature-controlled storage facilities, as well as keeping to a four-hour shipping commitment that helps extend the life of produce sent to client stores.
