Arkansas-bred star and multiple Oaklawn stakes winner Hoonani Road is scheduled to make his comeback in Thursday’s fifth race at Churchill Downs, a conditioned allowance sprint at 6 furlongs.

Trained by Wayne Catalano and owned by Jerry Caroom of Hot Springs, Hoonani Road hasn’t started since winning the $200,000 Arkansas Breeders’ Championship Stakes at 1 1/16 miles May 4 at Oaklawn. The gelding is unbeaten in seven career starts at Oaklawn, including three stakes.

Hoonani Road (8-1 on the morning line) is scheduled to break from post 2 under regular rider Channing Hill, Catalano’s son-in-law. In addition to the inaugural Arkansas Breeders’ Championship, Hoonani Road has beaten state-breds in two Oaklawn sprint stakes, the $100,000 Rainbow in 2018 and the $100,000 Nodouble Breeders’ March 23.

Overall, Hoonani Road has an 8-1-0 record from 12 lifetime starts and earnings of $452,838. The 4-year-old gelded son of Jonesboro, a multiple Oaklawn stakes winner and millionaire, beat open company in a June 2018 first-level allowance sprint at Churchill Downs.

Thursday’s projected nine-horse field includes Oaklawn-raced Zipp On By, Pete’s Play Call, Petrov and Captain Scotty, the 9-5 program favorite. Trained by Peter Miller, Captain Scotty hasn’t started since a 6 ¾-length allowance victory March 24 at Oaklawn. Zipp On By is also entered in the $200,000 Fabulous Strike Stakes Wednesday at Penn National.

Probable post time for Thursday’s fifth race is 12:24 p.m. (Central).

Churchill’s Thanksgiving card is headlined by the $300,000 Falls City Stakes for fillies and mares at 1 1/8 miles on dirt.

The co-3-1 program favorite is Go Google Yourself, who won a March 8 allowance race at Oaklawn in her 4-year-old debut. Go Google Yourself exits a neck victory over Moonlit Garden in the $200,000 Locust Grove Stakes (G3) Sept. 14 at Churchill Downs. Mylady Curlin finished a length farther back in third. Moonlit Garden finished third in the $200,000 Bayakoa Stakes (G3) for older fillies and mares Feb. 18 at Oaklawn. Mylady Curlin was a March 17 allowance winner at Oaklawn. Brad Cox, Oaklawn’s sixth-leading trainer in 2019, trains Moonlit Garden (10-1) and Mylady Curlin (7-2).

Probable post time for the Falls City, which goes as race 9, is 2:24 p.m. (Central).
