  • Jockey Luis Contreras did not show up on the scene in Hot Springs until halfway through the 2017 meeting, but still finished fifth in the standings with 31 victories, highlighted by the $400,000 Fantasy Stakes (G3) aboard Ever So Clever. Contreras won 15 races in 2018 at Oaklawn.
  • Regularly among the top riders in Canada where he won a Sovereign Award as outstanding jockey in 2011 and 2012, Contreras had another successful meet at Woodbine in 2017 where he was second-leading rider. Among his 17 stakes victories at the Toronto track was the prestigious Queen's Plate aboard the filly Holy Helena. Through Nov. 16, Contreras was Woodbine’s third-leading rider in 2018.
  • Made history in 2011 when he became the first jockey to sweep Canada's Triple Crown aboard two different horses. He won the Queen's Plate with Inglorious and then the Price of Wales and Breeders' Stakes with Pender Harbour.
  • A native of Mexico City, Contreras began his career at age 16 in 2002 in his native country before moving to the United States in 2007 and starting off in Northern California and Sunland Park.
  • First Grade 1 win was in the 2014 Carter Handicap aboard Dads Cap.
