Jockey Ricardo Santana Jr. is making quite a habit out of winning stakes races this meet at Oaklawn and did not disappoint the backers that made his mount, Aireofdistinction, the 2-1 favorite in Saturday’s $100,000 Spring Fever Stakes. Sittin at the Bar returns to Oaklawn for the first time since her fifth-place finish in last March’s Honeybee Stakes (G3) at 1 1/16 miles, but there are compelling reasons to expect she’ll fare much better in Saturday’s $100,000 Spring Fever Stakes. Although the Louisiana-bred 4-year-old filly is taking on older mares in open company, she is undefeated at the 5 1/2 f distance of the race and is riding a two-race win streak. Read More

Winchell Thoroughbred’s homebred Tapiture secured 10 points and a place along the Derby trail with his runaway victory in Monday’s $300,000 Southwest Stakes (G3) before a crowd of 25,622. Trainer Steve Asmussen said he will now continue down the path toward the April 12 Arkansas Derby and May 3 Kentucky Derby with a likely start in the $600,000 Rebel Stakes March 15. Read More
