Smarty Jones Stakes runner-up Texas Bling showed that he’s ready to take the next step along the Derby trail in the Feb. 18 Southwest Stakes (G3) with a five-furlong workout in 1:00 4/5 Saturday morning with jockey Cliff Berry aboard. The workout was the second fastest of 74 at the distance, but the Too Much Bling colt appeared to be just galloping and was already asking for more by the time he got back to the barn. Read More

Dan Bearden’s San Pablo arrived in Hot Springs Tuesday for his engagement in Saturday’s $100,000 Essex Handicap after flying in from trainer Todd Pletcher’s Palm Meadows base in South Florida. He was assigned top weight of 120 lbs. for the 1 1/16-mile race. Read More
Apprehender Powers Home to Win King Cotton

Dream Farm LLC’s Apprehender, who briefly tested the waters in Oaklawn’s 2012 3-year-old stakes series, returned to Hot Springs for his 4-year-old debut and showed he’s much better suited for the sprint division with his victory in Saturday’s $60,000 King Cotton Stakes. Read More

Lukas Looks for another Big Weekend with King Cotton Pair Hall of Fame trainer D. Wayne Lukas will try to keep his momentum going after two stakes victories last week with another pair of victories Saturday. He will start both Laurie’s Rocket and Hamazing Destiny, the 5-2 favorite, in the $60,000 King Cotton at Oaklawn and last year’s Rebel Stakes runner-up Optimizer, the 7-2 favorite in the $125,000 Col. E.R. Bradley Handicap (G3) at Fair Grounds. Last Saturday, he won Fair Grounds Lecomte Stakes (G3) with Oxbow and Monday he won Oaklawn’s Smarty Jones Stakes with Will Take Charge. Read More
