Oaklawn Stakes Winners Prepare for Breeders’ Cup Classic and Distaff

Tri-Bone Stables’ Oaklawn Handicap Effinex will be seeking to become the third straight Oaklawn-raced horse to win the $6 Breeders’ Cup Classic as he faces the likes of 2014 Horse of the Year California Chrome and record-setting Travers Stakes winner Arrogate in Saturday’s race. Four Oaklawn stakes winners and eight other horses who have raced in Hot Springs were among 185 pre-entries Wednesday for the 33rd annual Breeders’ Cup Nov. 4-5 at Santa Anita. Two of the stakes winners, Effinex and Hoppertunity, were pre-entered in North America’s richest race, the $6 million Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1), Nov. 5 at 1 ¼ miles.

Four-time Oaklawn winner Steel Cut scored a two-length victory in the $133,500 Oklahoma Classics Distaff Stakes Friday night at Remington Park. The Distaff was one of 10 stakes races totaling more than $1 million on the Oklahoma Classics program for accredited Oklahoma-breds.
