An entry-level allowance race Friday at Oaklawn could produce a starter for the $900,000 Rebel Stakes (G2) March 19. Owner Richard Keith said Sunday morning that Black Ops will be wheeled back in the Rebel with a strong performance in Friday’s 1 1/16-mile race, which will be his first start against older horses and first since a 10th-place finish in the $150,000 Smarty Jones Stakes Jan. 18 at Oaklawn.

Whitmore worked a bullet half-mile in :48.20 Saturday morning at Oaklawn, the gelding’s first breeze since finishing second in the $500,000 Southwest Stakes (G3) Feb. 15. He is scheduled to make his next start in the $900,000 Rebel Stakes (G2) March 19 at Oaklawn, the final major local prep for the $1 million Arkansas Derby (G1) April 16.

The $600,000 Apple Blossom Handicap (G1) for older fillies and mares April 15 at Oaklawn is being targeted by I’m a Chatterbox, runner-up for an Eclipse Award as champion 3-year-old filly last year, and multiple stakes winner Cassatt, trainer Larry Jones said Friday morning. Jones was in Hot Springs this weekend and saddled Thirteen Arrows to a second-place finish in Saturday’s $100,000 Spring Fever Stakes.
