Three Oaklawn-raced horses will have a chance to punch their ticket to the Breeders’ Cup in the $300,000 Awesome Again Stakes (G1) Saturday at Santa Anita.
The trio of entrants is headed by Cupid, whose six career victories include the $900,000 Rebel Stakes (G2) for 3-year-olds in 2016 at Oaklawn. Trained by Hall of Famer Bob Baffert, Cupid is 2 for 2 this year after winning the $500,000 Gold Cup at Santa Anita Stakes (G1) May 27 at Santa Anita and the $75,000 Harry F. Brubaker Stakes Aug. 23 at Del Mar.
The Awesome Again Stakes is a “Win and You’re In” event for the $6 million Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1) Nov. 4 at Del Mar.
Cupid, among several Baffert runners under consideration for the Classic, drew post 8, the extreme outside, for the Awesome Again. The 4-year-old son of Tapit is scheduled to be ridden by Rafael Bejarano and shoulder top weight of 126 pounds.
