MINISTRY WINS RAINBOW MISS IMPRESSIVELY
HOT SPRINGS, AR (Saturday, April 1, 2017) – Starfish Stable LLC’s Ministry made the successful jump from maiden winner to stakes winner with her impressive victory in Saturday’s $100,000 Rainbow Miss. A crowd of 19,500 was on hand to witness the race honoring Arkansas-bred 3-year-old fillies on the day also highlighted by the popular Boat and Truck Giveaway.
Ministry broke well, but had to steady soon after the start and settled into fourth as 7-5 favorite Ms Fifty First St. led the field through opening fractions of :22 1/5 and :45 4/5 for the first half mile. The winner began to make her move around turn, engaged the leader at the top of stretch and drew off to win easily by 6 ¾ lengths over Superstar Bea in a final time of 1:10 3/5. The favorite held on for third.
“We were going to try and sit back like we did in the maiden special,” winning rider Tommy Pompell said. “She broke pretty good and I started taking her back and kind of got a little squeezed, but that didn’t hurt us any. When I asked her, she was gone. It seems like she is getting better every time I ride her.”
Ministry, who has now two of four career starts and earned $104,800, was the first stakes winner for her owner Linda Robbins, trainer Jaime Gonzalez and stallion Ordained, who stands at Robbins’ Starfish Farm. She returned $6.60, $3.20 and $2.20.
The boat and truck was won by Sandra Wooten of Pine Bluff, AR.
Live racing resumes Sunday with a 1:30 p.m. first post.
