HOT SPRINGS, AR (Friday, March 31, 2017) – Flurry Racing Stables LLC’s Five O One, named in honor of the area code that covers central Arkansas, including Hot Springs, did not disappoint as the prohibitive 1-2 favorite with an impressive victory in Friday’s $100,000 Rainbow Stakes for 3-year-old Arkansas-bred colts and geldings.

Five O Five was content to sit back in fifth place early as Checkmate Charlie led through an opening quarter mile in :21 3/5 and J.E.’s Handmedown led through a half mile in :45 3/5. The winner came four wide into the lane, collared the leader nearing furlong marker and kicked well clear to win by five lengths over J.E.’s Handmedown. His winning time for six furlongs on a fast track was 1:11 2/5. Jack Be Quick was third.

“Man, it’s just huge for me to finally get a stakes win at Oaklawn,” said owner Staton Flurry, who was winning his first stakes race. “I grew up half a mile down that way. When I was young, I would jump on the trampoline and time it out right where I could see the horses coming around the turn. Ricardo gave us a huge ride. I expected us to be a little closer, but time went fast. He made his move coming down the stretch, kind of like I figured, and he brought it home. That’s the reason we bought this horse, was just for this race last June. Had this one circled. It feels good to finally get a stakes win here at Oaklawn.”

“He is a very nice horse,” said winning rider Ricardo Santana Jr., who had three wins on the card. “Very classy. I expected the race to go like that, fast early. I sat back on him because I know I had a lot of horse. He just kept rolling. He’s a nice horse.”

Five O One, a Drosselmeyer gelding, is now a perfect two for two in his career and has earned $103,200. He returned $3, $2.10 and $2.10.

Live racing resumes Saturday with a 1 p.m. first post. Tomorrow’s 10-race card is highlighted by the $100,000 Rainbow Miss Stakes and the popular Boat and Truck Giveaway.
