HOT SPRINGS, AR (Tuesday, Nov. 16, 2016) –Oaklawn patrons and Team Members joined forces to collect a record amount of canned and other non-perishable food items for local Hot Springs charities during the fifth annual Yes We Can Food Drive. More than 17,000 items were gathered this year during the week-long drive compared to the nearly 15,000 items collected in 2015.

The food items were accepted between Nov. 6 and 12 and delivered Nov. 15 to Jackson House and First United Methodist Community Food Pantry just in time for the Thanksgiving holiday.

“This is a miracle,” Jackson House Executive Director Janie Smith said. “I’m so excited to have all this food. It’s been a tough year and it couldn’t have come at a better time.”

“The Yes We Can Food Drive is something the both our guests and Team Members look forward to each year,” Director of Marketing Kim Baron said. “We’re happy that the promotion seems to get bigger and bigger each year, which allows us to help two wonderful charities in the Jackson House and First United Methodist Community Food Pantry during a time of year when the need is so great.”

It took two full box trucks to disperse the food that filled the lobby of Oaklawn’s gaming center. For their generosity, patrons were given entries into a cash drawing held Nov. 12 for every

food item they brought in during the week.
