Hot Springs, Ark. (Thursday, June 4, 2015) – Hot Springs Mayor Ruth Carney has signed a proclamation declaring Saturday, June 6, “American Pharoah Day” in Hot Springs. The winner of Oaklawn’s Arkansas Derby and Rebel Stakes will attempt to become the first Triple Crown winner since 1978 when he runs in the Belmont Stakes Saturday at Belmont Park.

In the proclamation, Mayor Carney and the Hot Springs City Board state that they “encourage everyone to recognize and applaud the huge heart, the undefeatable spirit and the national accomplishments of this great Thoroughbred” and acknowledge that Hall of Fame trainer Bob Baffert  “selected Oaklawn Park to race American Pharoah for its reputation and quality of racing.”

Owned by Zayat Stables, LLC, of Ahmed Zayat, American Pharoah followed up his Arkansas Derby win with victories in the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes and now attempts to win the most elusive prize in not only racing, but the entire sports world.

“American Pharoah joins a long list of champion horses that launched their campaigns at Oaklawn and we are honored that his accomplishments are being recognized in our own community and statewide,” Oaklawn Director of Racing David Longinotti said. “We look forward to cheering him on this Saturday. His performances since winning the Arkansas Derby have already enhanced Oaklawn’s reputation as the leading place to prepare a top horse for the Triple Crown trail.”
Oaklawn is honoring the winner of its two premiere races for 3-year-olds with American Pharoah Fest and will be “the” place to watch and wager on the full simulcast of the Belmont Stakes Saturday. Fans can get two American Pharoah trading cards and a souvenir poster beginning at 1 p.m. while supplies last and everyone in attendance will also have the chance to win a $100 Win bet on the Belmont Stakes. The betting vouchers will be given away every 15 minutes from 11 – 1 p.m. and 2 – 4 p.m. The festivities will also include live music on the apron until 5 p.m. and a beer garden.
