Hot Springs, Ark. (Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2014) – As Oaklawn moves into the most exciting part of its live racing season, there will be plenty of action both on the track and in the newly expanded gaming area. Highlighting the month are the Racing Festival of the South Preview Day Saturday, March 14 and the Shamrock Showdown Tuesday, March 17.
The best 3-year-olds in the country continue their journey towards the $1 million Arkansas Derby in the $750,000 Rebel Stakes (G2) March 14. The Racing Festival of the South Preview day will also be highlighted by the $250,000 Razorback Handicap and $300,000 Azeri, which are the final local preps for the $600,000 Oaklawn Handicap (G2) April 11 and $600,000 Apple Blossom Handicap (G1) April 10, respectively. First post is 1 p.m.

March 14 also marks the return of the “Park Inside the Park” as Oaklawn’s Infield will now be open for the final five Saturdays of the meet. Fans are invited bring lawn chairs and blankets to enjoy the races from the infield where there will be a Beer Garden, Kids Zone and big screen TV.

The luck of the Irish will be upon Oaklawn guests March 17 when we celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with the Shamrock Showdown from 5 – 10 p.m. There will be a $4.99 Irish Buffet in Lagniappes, $2 Draft Beer and $5,000 Drawing.

The popular Boat and Truck Giveaway returns March 28 and one lucky fan will leave the races with a new boat and truck just in time for spring. Guests can begin entering Saturday, March 14 and must be present March 28 to win. First post is 1 p.m.

Every Monday and Tuesday in March, Oaklawn will host the $12,500 Beat the Buzzer Reel Tournament starting at 7 p.m. The top 16 teams that qualify will be eligible to return for the final on March 31 where they will be playing for $5,000.

The $100,000 Outlaw Quick Draw will be played every Thursday from 6 – 10 p.m. Guests just need to have earned 10 points between the previous Thursday – Wednesday to receive an entry.

Live racing continues every Thursday – Sunday until April 11. There will also be two Wednesday cards April 1 and 8. First post is 1:30 p.m. weekdays and Sundays and 1 p.m. Saturdays.

Lagniappe Restaurant offers the Ragin’ Cajun special where guests can choose from three different Cajun entrees every Wednesday from 5 – 10 p.m. Every Friday from 5 – 10 p.m. it’s Steak Night where guests can enjoy the best steak in Hot Springs or if they prefer, the catch of the day.
