HOT SPRINGS, AR (Saturday, Sept. 7, 2013) – Oaklawn’s first condition book for the 2014 meet is now available and has been mailed to horsemen all across the country. The condition book and stall applications can be also be found at www.Oaklawn.com. The 2014 season kicks off Friday, Jan. 10.

For the sixth consecutive year, overnight purses have increased. Purses receiving the biggest bumps are once again the Maiden Allowances and Allowance races, which will start at $55,000 and $56,000, respectively. Last year, these races were $53,000 and $54,000, respectively, in the first condition book. Additionally, Oaklawn’s minimum purse has risen from $15,500 to $17,000 and all other overnight purses were increased by at least $1,000 over their 2013 starting level.

Oaklawn had previously announced a significant purse increase to its stakes schedule where 19 of 31 races received bumps, including five stakes that were increased 40% from $60,000 to $100,000, the track’s new minimum for open stakes.

“It’s exciting to be part of a racing program that continually bucks the national trend and gets better and better each year,” said Director of Racing David Longinotti. “I don’t think there can better testament for a racing program than to see your horses and horsemen excel at other tracks and this has been an exceptional year starting with Oxbow’s victory in the Preakness and more recently the success Oaklawn stakes winners Justin Phillip and Will Take Charge found at Saratoga.”

Longinotti and Racing Secretary Pat Pope will be hitting the road shortly to begin their annual recruiting efforts and to hand deliver condition books and stall applications. Their travels will take them to Kentucky, New York, New Jersey, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Illinois and California.
