HOT SPRINGS, AR (Friday, Dec. 28, 2012) – Specialty coffees, craft beers and a variety of Mexican food items are among the new food and beverage options Oaklawn will offer during the 2013 live season that begins Friday, Jan. 11. These menu items will join the world-famous corned beef sandwiches, jumbo shrimp and other popular treats offered at concession stands on the first floor of the grandstand.
The Daily Double Deli, located next to the paddock, will now feature beef, chicken and bean burritos as well as Queso nachos and beef or chicken nacho salads. To quench their thirst, guests can now order the “Silver & Silver,” a shot of Sotol Tequila and a Coors Light.
For fans with a sweet tooth or in need of hot cup of coffee, there will the Homestretch Hot Brews and Cool Treats featuring Westrock Coffee’s fresh ground Oaklawn Blend. Located next to the Daily Double Deli, the Homestretch will offer guests a host of specialty coffee drinks and ice cream treats that can be served with or without a flavored liqueur. The new signature items include the Mudder, Fantasy, Apple Blossom and Honeybee.
In addition to the enhanced food and beverage items on the first floor, there will be the new Side Bet Bar, located on the Mezzanine level, which will have craft beers, the Silver & Silver special and a build your own Bloody Mary bar featuring Absolut vodka.
“Next to our racing, Oaklawn is probably best known for our food,” said Belinda Castleberry, Director of Food & Beverage. “People tell us all the time that they’ve traveled hundreds of miles just for the Corned Beef sandwiches. Now, we hope we have given them even more reason to come for a day at the races with the new coffees, craft beers and food items.”
The 2013 live meet runs Jan. 11 through April 13 when it culminates with the 77th running of the $1 million Arkansas Derby. Racing will be held every Thursday – Sunday as well as Monday, Jan. 21, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Monday, Feb. 18, Presidents Day, and Wednesday, April 10, the first day of the Racing Festival of the South.
