Triple Crown winner American Pharoah returned to his Southern California base Monday, approximately 48 hours after his stunning second-place finish in the $1.6 million Travers Stakes (G1) at Saratoga. He was beaten three-quarters of length by Keen Ice in the 1 ¼-mile Travers, snapping his eight-race losing streak.

Trainer Ron Moquett said Far Right, the top locally based 3-year-old male this year at Oaklawn, remains under consideration for the $1.25 million Travers Stakes (G1) Aug. 29 at Saratoga. He said Far Right is also a candi-date for the $500,000 King’s Bishop Stakes (G1) Aug. 29 at Saratoga, $300,000 Smarty Jones Stakes (G3) Aug. 29 at Parx and the $400,000 Super Derby (G2) Sept. 12 at Louisiana Downs.

Five of the 16 horses nominated to the $1.25 million Travers Stakes (G1) Aug. 29 at Saratoga ran this spring at Oaklawn, including Triple Crown winner American Pharoah. The purse for Travers will be raised to $1.6 million if American Pharoah starts in the 1 ¼-mile Midsummer Derby.
