  • Jockey Ramon Vazquez came within two wins of Ricardo Santana Jr. in 2015 and was once again second in 2016. He had 42 victories during the season, including four straight with top sprinter Subtle Indian. In addition to two allowance race wins, the gelding won the $100,000 Hot Springs Stakes and $400,000 Count Fleet Sprint Handicap (G3), the richest race of Vazquez’s career.
  • Tied Alex Birzer atop the 2016 Prairie Meadows jockey standings with 83 wins and was on target for this third straight Remington Park title. His other top mount included stakes winners Chanel’s Legacy, Han Sense, Storm Power and DRC’s Pretty Sky.
  • The son of a jockey, Vazquez graduated from the Puerto Rico Vocational Jockey School in 2002 and was both the leading rider and leading apprentice in Puerto Rico that year. He made the move to the United States in 2011 and started his career at Delaware Park. His neighbor growing up was Hall of Fame jockey John Velazquez, who he considers his biggest mentor.
  • Among Vazquez’s best mounts to date is Soy Conquistador, who he piloted to victory in seven stakes victories in his native Puerto Rico. His other top mounts include Daddy Nose Best, Fortune Play and Big Sugarush.
