  • Luis Contreras did not show up on the scene in Hot Springs until halfway through the season, but still finished among the top 10 with 31 wins, highlighted by a victory in the $400,000 Fantasy Stakes aboard Ever So Clever.
  • Regularly among the top riders in Canada where he was champion jockey in 2011 and '12, Contreras had another successful meet at Woodbine in 2017 where he was second leading rider. Among his 15 stakes wins at the Toronto track was the prestigious Queen's Plate aboard the filly Holy Helena. 
  • Made history in 2011 when he became the first jockey to sweep Canada's Triple Crown aboard three different horses. He won the Queen's Plate with Inglorious and then the Price of Wales and Breeders' Stakes with Pender Harbour.
  • A native of Mexico City, Contreras began his career at age 16 in 2002 in his native country before moving to the United States in 2007 and starting off in Northern California and Sunland Park.
  • First Grade 1 win was in the 2014 Carter Handicap aboard Dads Cap.
