At his training peak, Smith developed the outstanding Silver Goblin, a racing millionaire and a fan favorite at Oaklawn.
Smith is a three time Spa training champion.
Smith and trainer Gary Hartlage became a part of Oaklawn history in 1997 when they shared the training championship. Each had 26 winners, while only one score away with 25 was Bobby Barnett.
A year later Smith won Oaklawn's title outright with 30 wins from 145 starters.
Smith gained the 1999 Spa crown with 39 wins from 160 starters. Three of those victories came in stakes; Temperence Time taking the Dixieland, Sweet and Ready the Pippin and Fair And Lovely the Rainbow Miss.
In 1997, Smith sent out Dusting Pass to win the Second Pleasure Stakes. A year earlier, a stable star was Roythelittleone, hero of the Hot Springs, who later finished second to Concept Won in the Count Fleet Sprint Handicap.
In 1998, Kenny won the Oaklawn Breeders with Turn to the Queen and the Althea with Eagle’s Wings.
He conditions a public stable, one patron being Al Horton, who raced Silver Goblin.
